Seeking mental therapy via the traditional health care system is made difficult by the constraints of the system itself. First of all, successful treatment requires regular appointments. However, with standard clinical therapy, patients often have to wait weeks before a therapist might become available. Follow up appointments can take just as long to schedule, making regular and sustained treatment difficult.
Second, insurance requirements further make treatment difficult. Insurance plans often limit the number of covered psychotherapist visits in a year. Patients often require an official diagnosis to fulfill billing requirements. The stigma of being labeled with a particular diagnosis can make patients more reluctant to continue treatment.
With these challenges, more and more people are taking matters into their own hands and turning to direct one-on-one therapy as an answer.
With this approach, patients have far greater access to the therapist during their healing process. Without the constraints of the insurance system, patients can choose a therapist whom they are comfortable talking to and sharing personal information, which is essential to effective therapy. There are no limits on the number of visits, so a client will get all the help they need. Also, without insurance there is no requirement for a specific diagnosis, removing the potential stigma that comes with such a label. By removing insurance from the equation, clients are able to get the attention and service they want/need.
I only accept a small number of clients at a time so that I can give them the attention they need and deserve. With fewer clients, my clients will have far greater flexibility to schedule appointments with me. In traditional clinical therapy, therapists have appointments packed non stop into their schedule. So when the hour is up, the session has to end because the next patient is already waiting. With a smaller patient load, if I need to take a few extra minutes to wrap up a particular point or get through a key moment, I have the latitude to do so.
If my clients are going through a particularly difficult moment or situation, they can pick up the phone and call me at that moment rather than wait until their next scheduled visit. If a client needs an appointment, they can book a full visit with me on 24 hours notice.
In my practice, clients are not limited to in person or telehealth appointments. My patients can also take advantage of a combination of mediums for treatment, including email, online chat, or even text. If a client is just having a rough stretch during the day and needs a quick answer or a gentle reminder, I can offer that. In genera, I am available to my clients until 9 PM 7 days a week.
So if you feel that you are in need of more dedicated attention and more convenient options to stay effectively engaged with your mental health, I would be happy to answer any additional questions you might have about my approach to therapy. Contact me now to set up a free 20 minute consultation.
